Daves Iconic Performance of ‘Black’ At The Brit Awards 2020

Rapper/Actor Dave gave a politically charged performance of his iconic song ‘Black’ at the Brit Awards last week. The simple but effective performance included many injustices, including the difference between the media’s treatment of royals Kate Middleton and Megan Markle. Grenfell fire victims still not being rehoused was also mentioned as well as the British Prime minister Boris Johnson being a racist.

The performance ended with the lyrics ‘We want rehabilitation, now that would be amazing. But Grenfell victims still need accommodation. And we still need support for the Windrush generation, reparations for the time our people spent on plantations.’

The ‘Top Boy’ actor received a well deserved standing ovation after his performance and had social media on fire with congratulations from celebrities and fans. His comments on the Prime Minister being racist got him trending on Twitter and even made the news. A few days after the Brits, during an interview, the home secretary Priti Patel told Sky News that the rappers accusations were ‘utter nonsense’. Patel said: “That’s utter nonsense, it really is. I don’t know what those comments are based on.” Of course she would say that, she’s not exactly going to say that it’s true.

The performance wasn’t the only highlight for the 21 year old. He also won the Mastercard British album of the year award for his release Psychodrama.
